Eating a Balanced Diet

I don't mean to use the word diet, actually but what I am talking about is how you eat daily. What you eat, and how much really does make a difference. Nowdays, they are calling for more fruits and veggies in our daily intake. Being a teen, it's super important to eat a good variety of foods, especially taking in consideration that what you can really affect how you feel. Eating a lot of good leafy veggies and several servings of fruit can leave you feeling more energized. Drinking plenty of water is also good for flushing out the bad stuff from our bodies, as well as helping us keep a cap on how much we eat. Chocolate and cookies, well, most teens like this, and it's really okay, as long as it's in moderation. I also want to mention here, that lean turkey and chicken is good for you too !
Honestly, everything in moderation these days seems to be what we need.

Some Advice About Working For Your Future

Right now, being only 14, it's a great time. There's no bills to pay, no credit cards, no house payments, no groceries to buy and certainly no car notes yet. Dear daughter, please take my advice: Working is hard, but it can be very rewarding, especially when buying things that you really want to buy....however, don't rush into things. Getting a job requires many things from a person.
1. a way back and forth to work is very important
2. the proper clothing for certain jobs
3. dedication to getting the job done
4. time to spend at the job
5. a sincere effort to be there whenever you are called in
5. a smile !!

Helping In The Home

These past several days, I have been in bed, sick, unable to get up much and was in desperate need for a hand around the house. Unlucky for me being sick with something I think I ate that was wrong, but lucky in the fact that my darling daughter was at home to help me out. I am so thankful that I have been teaching her how to cook, as she made me breakfast (scrambled eggs with toast) and bought me juice. Not only that, teaching her how to help around the house, she not only vaccumed the floors for me, but got a few loads of laundry done. I wanted to teach her that doing for others, especially when in need was something that should be done willingly, and without any backtalk, and I was so happy that she did so with a smile on her face. Maybe she's growing up, or perhaps she sees how doing for me also later in turn allows her more outings. Either way, I really have to thank her for doing so much for me when I needed her most. Does your teen help you around the house?

So Much To Do.......So Little Time

How do you allot equal time to all the things that have to be done in a day? In a teen's world, Friday night, Saturday and Sunday seem to be really what matters most and what all they can do and see during that time. What about Monday through Friday? School, schoolwork, various household chores, and sport activities need to be dealt with so that there's enough time to get it all done. I don't believe in all homework, every night with nothing else to do. I think that a teen needs to have time allowed for homework, time for some rest, and time to have some sport activities on the side. We have a horse, so we try and go out to ride about 4 times a week, 3 times during the weekday. I also allow my daughter to come in and get a much-needed snack before hounding her about her homework. Telephone time, well, that's well deserved once most of the other things are done.Publish Post

Talking On The Phone

Sometimes, it's way too much. I know, I know, when I was a teen, I did the same thing too....but today you've not only got the telephone, but you have a cell phone and text messaging. You've got aol messenger and myspace.com. My darling daughter, it's okay to use the phone and talk to your friends, but there are times in life, especially after you come from school, that you must put that phone to rest long enough to do your homework for school. There's dinner too, not to mention, picking your clothes up off the floor !!!! Let's not make using the phone all afternoon and night a "bad" choice. I know you want to keep your electronics, so try giving the poor phone a little bit of rest, at least until after the homework, dinner and shower is done. After all, homework is a very important part of grades in your school and I know you have to get it done.

Qunceanera Planning (3)

I am steadily looking for a photographer and have my list narrowed down to 16 of them.....way too many. I also happened to notice that Party City was having the plastic tablecloth covers for only half price. That made them only $6.49 each. I also had a $5.00 coupon off for spending $25.00. I managed to get 4 white rolls, which is plenty to do all the tables for the quincea. Right now, we are just picking up things while on sale, thank goodness we still have plenty of time to do it.

Are You Your Daughter's Friend?

I have raised 4 children already and this last baby girl of mine is quickly becoming a young lady. We all know that as our children grow, they begin to assert their independence and sometimes it can get really hard to deal with., even a hard struggle of power sometimes. You need to be a good listener and try to be open to their ideas, even give some advice but you must always remain a parent. My teen and I are very close. I respect her privacy, I am a great listener, but I also let my daughter know what I think are the good choices from the bad. I want her to know that I am here for her, but that I am still in charge. Make sure your daughter knows what the rules are in regards to dating, friends, school work and what's expected from her at home and housework as well. I am also very quick to praise for something done right. Raising teens in this day and time, is sure different than when my mother raised me.

The Value Of Bargain Shopping

It's time to go and buy my daughter more clothes.....seems she just keeps growing. Getting taller and needing to replace some of the things that no longer fit, or are worn to a frazzle. Clothing just doesn't seem to last any time at all these days. T-shirts seem to be made really thin, which after many washings get less vibrant and sometimes just way too darned thin. We have a budget in mind. We had a budget today of 135.oo and here's what was on the list
  1. 2 pair of jeans
  2. 2 t-shirts appropriate for school wear
  3. bras
  4. panties
  5. socks
  6. shoes
Wow, what a list! How can we get so much with only $135, you ask? Well, here's how we did it. I do this every time I take her shopping, so she will learn how to budget the money wisely. We shop for the bargains. Everything we bought was brand new. We went to Khols first of all. They were having an "early bird special". We were in luck. She found 2 bras for $10.80 each, 1 graphic t-shirt on sale for half price for $10, and 1 sleeveless t shirt for $6.30.....after taxes, the grand total was $41.03
Next we went to Walmart for 2 packages of socks, 1 tank shirt and a package of panties and the total was $21.79
Next stop was JCPenney's. She purchased 2 pair of jeans, 1 for $16.99 on sale half price, the other pair called "angels" were also on sale for half off costing 24.99.
Last stop, and after this stop, she was tired and wanted to go home.....but knowing that she finished up her money. We went to Payless Shoes. She got a BOGO deal and bought 1 pair for $22.99, and the 2nd pair was only $5.00. We had a grand total of $30.30.
She had fun, and I had fun watching her check prices and keeping track of how much each purchase was and how much was still left.
