Stopping Behind the Bus While Picking Up Students

Today I was taking my daughter to school, and darned it all, I got stuck behind a bus picking up students. I have this passion about going through the school zones and I believe that no matter what--those rules NEED to be observed. I stopped behind the bus, as always, but 2 cars ahead of me went right around the stop sign. I was FURIOUS!!!! I Do NOT understand how people can just go right around the bus as if it were nothing. Why do people do that? Don't they see that the bus is stopped to pick up kids going to school? Don't they see that fricken stop sign? Doesn't anybody care about the driving rules anymore?

Teen Drivers Ed

Am I brave or what? I checked around to all our local drivers ed locations and it is a whopping $375 cash, or $400 if paid in payments. Wow ! That is alot of money for me these days and since I had put all my other 4 in drivers ed, it was a given with my youngest. I just couldn't believe the prices and how they had jumped so much. Actually, where my oldest daughter lives (many hours north), the price is much more reasonable, but it's also in another state so that wasn't going to work either. With my teen, I have had the very good fortune of her doing well in school, listening to what I have to say and I found it quite beneficial to call around and find out about the parent-taught drivers ed, and just thinking about it sounded like alot of work, but it was only $20. I filled out the application that I found online, printed it out and sent in my check....now I have to wait for the packet to come back. I am hoping and praying that this will be something that isn't too difficult because I know that there are many lesson plans in the packet. Well, wish me luck. Oh, and by the way, I did call my insurance agent and discussed with her the amount of insurance that will raise with my daughter.....she said that while she is on a permit, she is under my insurance but after that, once proving that she's a "B" average student and taking a little test for the insurance, our insurance will be less than $65 a month....I was so happy about that.

Teens Getting Around Without A Car

How much control do you have over your teen? I think that my daughter has alot of lee-way when it comes to things that she wants and places she wants to go. Of course, we are talking about the fact that she is not driving yet. At this age of a teen's life, they really seem to have alot of places that they want to go and sometimes a parent can feel like a chaufeur. That's okay as long as I get to see where it is that she wants to go to, and I get to set the time limits of when she comes and goes. I am honestly dreading that her driver's ed is coming up soon and not too long after that, she will be able to drive herself around. Yes, I do trust my daughter, but once they start driving, do you really think that they will come and go to only the places that you allow them to go? I think that even though she has me busy with needing rides, I can at least know that she is where I took her to. And once she starts driving on her own, well, that's another story altogether.

"I Want To Drive"

Boy oh boy ! I was not prepared to hear those words from my daughter just yet. She hasn't turned 15 yet, but she's ready to drive. Actually, it's a little more involved than that. She thinks it's so easy, to just hop in the car, and take off. Oh wow, she's got a lot to learn. We have a choice here, and I think that we will be offering her driver's ed classes next Christmas, at which time she will be 15 and it will give me a little more time to adjust here. Maybe it's because she's my last child, my baby, or maybe I just can't imagine her being ready to drive. I will say one thing though, she is very responsible, and that I am glad.
