Although I have already raised 4 children, I still have one young teen left in the house. Now that I am older and have more experience, I thought that I would write down some pointers for my teenaged daughter.

Giving Teens Advice
Why can't teens see that when elders tell them about experiences, they don't seem to listen? Do they really HAVE to go through each and every experience and learn how to get up after they fall to learn all about life? I wish it wasn't so. My daughter is pretty good about listening to what I have to say, but then again, I don't tell her what to do, but try to give her different ideas so that she can think about things and make her own choices in life. I talked to my granddaughter this weekend, who is also a teen, but nearly an adult, and I hope and pray that she heard what I had to say about things....especially about guys. I guess only time will tell if they actually hear me or not. How do you deal with giving your teen advice?

OMG, She's Had The Same Boyfriend For Almost A Year Now
I am shocked and amazed that my daughter has been having the same boyfriend for nearly a year now, actually, it's been 11 months. He is the dearest most sweetest young man and is very well mannered. Although this is my youngest of five, I still have to keep on top of things and still keep my eyes peeled for anything that might come along. Do I trust her? Yes, but we are talking about a teen's hormones here and making sure that they are always supervised is of the most importance.....thank goodness neither one of them are driving yet, but that will most undoubtedly come very soon.

Teens and Their Moods
At what point do you start worrying about your teen daughter's boyfriend status? My daughter has liked the same boy now for nearly a year and they seem to get along wonderfully, but as of late, he has been going through some really tough times at home with his family and when he gets upset, he passes this upset mood onto my daughter, which in turn passes it on to me. I have explained to her that when he gets mad and doesn't want to speak to her, then she needs to just leave him alone....no phone calls and no texts, just total zip. Eventually, he calls her with the " I'm sorry" stuff and then she's smiling again. I told her that life is too short to be worried all the time, heck, there's all her other friends to call and chat to when he's all mad.

Oh, Boys !!!
Even though my daughter doesn't have a special guy right now (thank goodness), she has had a small taste of having a special guy. She is going to stand up in her best friend's quinceanera next weekend. She was going to have that special guy stand in with her, and he even went to some practices with her, and then he decided that he was just way too busy, not only for the dance practice, but for my daughter. Good riddence I said. However, that left her without a dance partner so they found her someone. She doesn't know him but they are only going to dance together. This concludes my thoughts on my own daughter's quinceanera which will be coming up in August: No boyfriends. That's right. The girls in her dance party will have to dance with either a good friend, or someone that my daughter picks. As far as her escort goes, she also is going to be picking a good friend. I told her that it's better to pick someone she knows that she can rely on, instead of picking a so-called boyfriend who may back out at the last minute. I know that's going to make the planning go a little smoother now !

A Hard Lesson About Boys
Boys will come and go. Some boys can really break your heart. There may be alot of "caring" or "really nice" boys out there for you to date, my darling daughter, but you need to learn something about them before deciding if they are worthy of a date. Perhaps it's not a date we are talking about, but having them for more than just a friend.
1. First of all, besides a cute face, they need to have some sort of a brain inside that head. They need to be somewhat interested in school if they are going to be smart enough to go on to college or trade school some day.
2. Boys need to have some manners about them, as you certainly don't want to have to deal with one who burps and farts out loud and embarrass you in public.
3. You need to know something about his likes and dislikes to see if you have something in common.
4. Learn about his background. Not a background check or anything like that, but you need to know if he smokes or drinks or has anything bad that he does because you certainly don't want to have a boy who does something you are against.
5. Has he had alot of girlfriends? Does he skip and hop from one to another? This might not be a good sign if he does.
6. Respectful, and not that this is last or least, but actually one of the most important things. He needs to have respect for your feelings and not be someone who wants to push you into doing anything you shouldn't be doing.
7. Go with your gut instinct about what's right or wrong. Don't ever compromise your values.

Teens and Boys
I can't tell you how much I wish that these days and times weren't so much to have to worry about. Back when I was a kid, we didn't have so much worry. In today's times, you almost have to worry about everything. I have raised 4 children already so this last daughter of mine, being the baby, really has me on my toes. You might think that after raising the others, that I would be tired. Oh yes, you are correct.....I am. But, no matter how tired I am, I must stick to my principles and do the best job that I can for her.
I am talking about boys this morning. You know, those gangly tall, some with braces some not, boys who is most definetly the apple of their mother's eye. My dear darling daughter has really not had much interest in boys through middle school but now that she has started high school, that's another story. She seems to attract them and I sit here wishing that she was still uninterested, but the cold hard fact that she has, has hit our home. My daughter was liking one boy for a month, then another one for about a week, she took about a week or two break and yesterday she lets me know that she likes another boy now. Geez, slow down kid !!! Thank goodness though, that it's not serious stuff yet. Do you think that I can wipe the sweat off my brow yet?
