Although I have already raised 4 children, I still have one young teen left in the house. Now that I am older and have more experience, I thought that I would write down some pointers for my teenaged daughter.

Teens and Keeping Fit
Keeping fit, even for a teen, can be a challenge. It doesn't matter how much you weigh. Yesterday, my daughter's school was conducting a program of fitness, to see how fit the kids are and if they need to give more attention to p.e. in our schools. Even though my daughter is only 106 pounds, she was sure given a challenge when it came to running a mile. She told me that she hyper-ventilated from breathing so hard. Several years back, she used to ride her bike, every single day after school.....but not anymore. She's in band, but they aren't in marching season so she pretty much has a laid back kind of day, except for the 7 minutes in between classes to get back and forth from one campus to another. I thought that perhaps this is enough excercise. What kind of activities do your teens do to keep in shape? Besides horse jumping and training, my daughter doesn't ride her bike anymore, so I am wondering if she is as fit as she should be? Should they bring more p.e. classes back into the schools? What do you think?

More Of The Quinceanera Plans
The Quinceanera plans are going well. We now have our guys set up for renting their tux, yes, it's a little early for this, however, I don't want anyone to have to have the burden of paying all of it at once. This way, they have nearly 4 months to pay. We picked out something rather nice, but affordable as well. We decided to add a couple of little girls, one being our granddaughter and one being my daughter's escorts sister to the mix of things so they can carry the pillows.
I managed to find an arch at our local hobby lobby at half price, so it was $10 plus tax. My next chore is finding what I am going to decorate the tables with and how I am going to deal with the invitations.

Living Life and Helping Others
Life is all about you and the people who surround you. Make sure that you take the time to help others who are in need. Make sure that you do something nice for someone, and don't expect anything back in return. Keep your tongue silent instead of saying something that might hurt someone else's feelings. Now days, some teens can be pretty mean, say things to hurt or do things that are just plain wrong. Don't ever stoop down to those levels. Be true to yourself and don't let anyone else make you do something that you know is wrong. Be strong and love yourself. Live life knowing that you are doing the right thing. Life is great, stop and smell the roses!

Quinceanera Update
Here we are nearly 4 months away from my daughter's quinceanera, and time is really moving quickly. We have an appointment with a choreographer over the weekend and went to one of his quinceanera's to see his work and we were very pleased. Finding a choreographer wasn't easy. I found that by asking around, I found several to choose from. I was also getting a little worried about my daughter not having all her damas and chambelins, so I decided to tell her that we needed to order the girls dresses. Now, for me, it was important to do early so that it would give the families plenty of time to pay on the dress in installments. My daughter called all the girls on her list, told them to meet us at the dress shop around 1 on Saturday, and much to my suprize, all but 1 were able to make it. The mothers came with them to help choose a dress, something appropriate, also something that can be worn again. This worked out so well and I was very pleased. I also called around and found the wishing well that we needed for people to put their cards in at the ceremony, and found one for only 6.99, which I have to decorate, but was happy for the bargain because the one across the street had one for 14.99. What a bargain!

Oh Those Lovely Hormones !
My daughter sometimes seems like she is on a roller coaster ride with her emotions. It really can be annoying because one minute, she is a really happy go lucky gal, and the next, she's tired and grumpy. I think that not only are her hormones running wild right now, but other things factor in on her moodiness. If her boyfriend calls and they are having a good conversation, wow, that's a happy moment for her, but if she's got homework to do: watch out, because then she's whining. What can we do about all of this moodiness? Not too much, really. Understanding, I suppose is the key issue here, unless, of course, it gets out of hand. When my daughter really starts to overdo the grouchies, I do have a talk with her about it to see if there's anything that can be talked over. Understanding and listening, that's what's important.
